The Siebenschläferkirche is an old church in Rotthof, in the district of Passau in Germany. It is one of only two dormouse churches in all of Europe.

According to legend, seven young men who lived in the 3rd century AD were persecuted as Christians. Therefore, they decided to flee into a cave and were walled up there. 200 years later when the entrance was reopened, God gave them back their lives and so they came out of the cave alive. </p>  

  

<p>The amazing decoration of the church makes it a popular folk artwork of the Rococo period throughout Bavaria. Johann Baptist Modler was the creator of the new high altar for this church in 1758. Moreover, the impressive stucco work of this artist inside the Rotthof church makes this place one of the top attractions that attract many visitors every year. </p>  

  

<p>However, the construction of the church dates back to the time of Roman settlement. The material used in the construction and the Roman gravestones around the church are the reason for this claim.</p>
